Q. What is Academic Success Tutoring?
A. Academic Success Tutoring is a unique, tutoring center that provides an opportunity for students to achieve success in their academic activities. We specialize in Math, Science, English-reading and writing, Spanish, and Test Preparation programs.
Q. What is your professional philosophy?
A. We believe that each student is an individual, with his or her own learning style and academic needs. We offer a positive and enriching environment that instills a love of learning, in order to establish a foundation of learning, so that each student may reach his or her full learning potential.
Q. Do you help students with their homework?
A. Yes, we help students become more successful in the classroom by helping them with their schoolwork.
Q. How is Academic Success better than in-home tutoring?
A. Our tutors specialize in the subject they tutor which gives your child the opportunity to work with experts in the subject area. We may have resources in the center that an in-home tutor might not have available. We also have a center in which more than one subject is offered, so that students can study more than one subject in one place. Also, students are able to concentrate and focus better on their learning when they are in an academic environment, away from their home, where there are no other everyday distractions.
Q. How often do most students attend tutoring sessions, and how long are the sessions?
A. Usually, most students attend sessions two times a week; most sessions are for one hour.
Q. Does each student work with the same tutor every time?
A. Yes, each student works with the same tutor for every session. Our highly qualified tutors make long-term commitments to our center, and develop a good rapport with the students. In this way, the tutors get to know exactly what the academic needs are for every individual student, and can provide specific instruction for those needs.
Q. Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
A. No, even though our program offers ongoing instruction for students–and many of our students have been coming to our center for years–we do not require any contracts.
Q. Does Academic Success tutor students with special needs?
A. Yes, we work with students of all abilities.
Q. What makes Academic Success different from other tutoring centers?
A. First of all, we offer programs that meet your child’s needs and your budget. Our center does not depend on pre-fabricated lesson plans. Rather, we have developed a student-centered program that utilizes detailed explanations, visual aids, and problem-solving, hands-on learning materials that tailor each session according to the specific needs of each student. In this way, we can focus on the students’ learning styles. In addition, we emphasize the fundamentals of each subject we tutor, and improve each student’s academic success.
Q. Does tutoring make a difference?
A. Our successful, student-centered tutoring program improves students’ grades. Tutoring not only maximizes the learning experience of students who may be struggling in certain areas, but it also optimizes the potential of students who are already excelling in school and who are ready for extra academic challenges. Our unique approach and highly qualified tutors provide specialized instruction for advanced students. Our focused time and professional experience offer advantages many students would not be able to find in a classroom. For example, one of our students is a fifth grade student who is now studying algebra. We have many such success stories.
Q. Is Academic Success Tutoring Center open during the summer months as well?
A. Yes! We are open year-round. Summer enrollment is a very important factor in your child’s overall long-term academic success. Our research indicates that students who continue their sessions during the summer improve at a much faster rate than those who withdraw for summer vacation. If you need to take time off for a vacation, we will definitely work around your schedule.
Q. Will you contact my child’s teacher to get more feedback on his progress?
A. Yes, this is one of the services we offer, and we believe it is very important to work together with your child’s teacher.
